Bid Buddy was created by Rebecca Stephens to give independent contractors, handymen, and hands-on homeowners a straightforward way to price work without confusing markup with profit margin. The free calculator is the center of the site: enter real job costs, choose a target margin, and see the bid required to protect it.
How our estimating content is prepared
Our guides explain the estimating process one cost at a time. We use transparent formulas, show the difference between markup and margin, and identify trade-specific line items that belong in a complete scope of work. We do not publish paid rankings, fabricated reviews, or guaranteed local prices.

What the numbers mean
Bid Buddy uses the true-margin formula: bid price equals total cost divided by one minus the target margin. The result is an estimate, not a quote from a supplier or a substitute for your own judgment. Verify current material prices, wages, tax, insurance, permit requirements, and jobsite conditions before sending a final bid.
